The title of Muhammad (peace be upon him), the Prophet; “the Messenger”.
What it means
Al-Rasūl, with the article, is the name by which the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) is known in the Quran, “the Messenger”. The Quran uses it when it commands believers to obey God and obey the Messenger (4:59), and it appears in the declaration of faith, that Muhammad is the Messenger of God. In Islamic usage, the word with the article means him in particular among all messengers. Muslims follow what he taught and showed in his life, which is preserved in the Sunnah, and love and respect for him is part of their faith. His name is followed by the invocation of peace whenever it is mentioned.
