أبو
Abū
“Father of”: the form of name by which Arabs call a person after his eldest child, and its counterpart “Umm”, mother of.
What it means
Abu Bakr, Abu Hurayra and Umm Salama are examples. The Prophet gave Companions such names, and the Quran uses one in Abu Lahab, “father of the flame” (111:1).
