Ḥiṭṭa

The word the Israelites were told to say on entering the city, meaning “relief” or “forgiveness” (2:58, 7:161).

What it means

“Enter the gate prostrating, and say ‘hiṭṭa’, and We will forgive you your sins” (2:58). The Quran says that those who changed the word to another were punished (2:59). Commentators relate that they entered crawling on their backs and said “a grain in a hair” in mockery.
