The Quran says God “sent down” iron, and gives it the title of the fifty-seventh surah.
What it means
“We sent down iron, in which is great strength and benefits for people” (57:25). Iron is also the metal of the barrier that Dhu al-Qarnayn built (18:96) and of David’s mail (34:10–11).
Often misunderstood as
Some modern writers say “sent down” means that iron fell from space. The same verb is used in the Quran for livestock (39:6) and clothing (7:26), and Arabic usage means “provided”, so scholars do not rest an argument on it.
