Bāraka
To fill with the grace and approval of God.
What it means
Bāraka is the verb for conferring baraka, blessing. To say that God has bāraka something is to say that He has filled it with increase, goodness and His approval. People use the verb in prayer for one another, and the noun baraka names the blessing itself. The Quran uses the root of places and persons God has blessed. The opening verse of Surah al-Isra speaks of the Sacred Mosque and the farthest mosque “whose surroundings We have blessed” (17:1). The word is not tied to any object as such: blessing is God’s gift, and a believer asks for it in his dealings.
Often misunderstood as
That baraka is a magical property of objects, when it is a gift that comes from God alone.
