فقير
Faqīr
A poor person; the Quran uses it for those in need (9:60), and the term is also used of Sufi ascetics.
What it means
The Quran lists the poor (fuqarāʾ) first among those who may receive zakat (9:60), and says that “you are the ones in need of God, and God is the Rich” (35:15). In Sufi usage faqīr means one who owns nothing before God.
