Topic

The Quran has Pharaoh say “kindle a fire for me, Haman, upon the clay” (28:38); baked brick was in use in ancient Egypt.

What it means

Pharaoh tells his minister Haman to “bake clay” and build a tower to see the God of Moses (28:38). Critics say that Egyptians built in stone, not baked brick.

What the sources say

The Bible says the Israelites in Egypt made bricks (Exodus 1:14), and fired brick has been found at Egyptian sites, so the verse is not out of place. See the Haman article for the other objection raised against this passage.
