فدية
Fidya
A compensation, such as feeding the poor, in place of a fast or for a failure in the pilgrimage.
What it means
The Quran says that those who cannot fast owe “a ransom: the feeding of a poor person” (2:184), and sets compensation for certain violations of the state of pilgrimage: fasting, almsgiving or a sacrifice (2:196). Compensation of this kind is also required for broken oaths (5:89).
