The Quran says that jinn used to listen at the heavens and now find guards and flames (72:8–9).

What it means

“We used to sit in places in it to listen, but whoever listens now finds a flame lying in wait” (72:9; also 15:17–18, 37:6–10, 67:5). Commentators differ on what is meant: some take it as a literal driving off of eavesdropping jinn by meteors; others take it as a figure for the end of such contact after revelation came.
