The Prophet’s household, held in special honour by all Muslims.
What it means
The Quran says God wishes “to remove impurity from you, people of the House, and to purify you thoroughly” (33:33). All include Fatima, Ali, Hasan and Husayn, whom the Prophet covered with his cloak (Sahih Muslim); Sunnis also include his wives, as the surrounding verses address them.
