Azl

Withdrawal before ejaculation, a method of birth control that the Prophet’s Companions practised and that most jurists permit.

What it means

The Companion Jabir said, “we practised ʿazl in the time of the Prophet while the Quran was being revealed” (Sahih al-Bukhari and Muslim). The Prophet said that if God wills a creation, nothing will prevent it. Most jurists allow it with the wife’s agreement, which has been taken as the basis of permitting contraception in marriage.
