Place
The land between the Mediterranean and the Jordan; the Quran speaks of “the Holy Land” promised to the Israelites.
What it means
The Quran does not use the name Canaan for the land. It tells how Moses told his people to enter “the Holy Land that God has assigned to you”, and they refused because it was held by a mighty people (5:20–26). The Bible’s commands to destroy the Canaanites (Deuteronomy 7, 20) are not part of the Quran, whose rules of war forbid killing non-combatants.
