In the Quran earthquakes are among the signs by which earlier peoples were destroyed, and chapter 99 describes the final quake.
What it means
Thamud and Midian were seized by an earthquake (7:78, 7:91). Chapter 99, “The Earthquake”, describes the earth shaken and giving up its burdens on the Day of Judgement, when people see the results of what they did, “whoever does an atom’s weight of good will see it” (99:7).
