Ḥamza
Person
The Prophet’s uncle and foster-brother, called “the Lion of God”, killed at Uhud in 625.
What it means
Hamza accepted Islam in the second year after the Prophet’s call, after he struck Abu Jahl for insulting him, and was among the strongest of the Muslims. He fought at Badr, and was killed at Uhud by Wahshi, a slave of the Quraysh, and his body was mutilated. The Prophet is said to have wept for him, and called him “the master of the martyrs”.
