الإجماع الصريح

al-Ijmāʿ al-Ṣarīḥ

Explicit consensus: agreement of the jurists stated openly, each by word or act, on a legal question.

What it means

Al-ijmāʿ al-ṣarīḥ is the clearly expressed form of consensus. The word ṣarīḥ means plain or explicit. Here every jurist of the age states his view on a question, whether in speech or by deed, and the statements all agree. Jurists treat this as the strongest kind of consensus, and they contrast it with silent agreement (al-ijmāʿ al-sukūtī). Since the agreement is declared, the schools generally accept it as proof for a ruling, while they disagree among themselves about how often it has actually occurred.

Term and Arabic as listed in Ismail al Faruqi, Toward Islamic English (International Institute of Islamic Thought, 1995), p. 52, listed as AL IJMĀ' AL ṢARĪḤ. The definition is restated here.
