A small modern movement following Rashad Khalifa (d. 1990) that accepts only the Quran, and which Muslim scholars regard as outside the mainstream.
What it means
Rashad Khalifa, an Egyptian-American biochemist, claimed to have found a numerical code based on 19 in the Quran, and rejected the hadith. He denied the last two verses of Surah 9. Muslim scholars across the schools reject these claims, since the Quran itself tells believers to obey the Messenger (4:59, 59:7), and the verses were recited and written down from the time of the Prophet.
