The Quran teaches through similes, including that of a gnat (2:26), a grain that multiplies (2:261) and a spider’s house (29:41).
What it means
“God is not ashamed to strike a parable of a gnat or something above it” (2:26). “The likeness of those who spend their wealth in God’s way is like a grain that grows seven ears, in each ear a hundred grains” (2:261). “The likeness of those who take protectors besides God is that of the spider, which builds a house; the frailest of houses is the spider’s house” (29:41). A good word is “like a good tree, its root firm and its branches in the sky” (14:24).
