al-Khabīr
Topic
A divine name: the All-Aware, who knows the inner reality of all things.
What it means
Al-Khabīr is one of the names of God. It means the One who is fully aware, whose knowledge reaches the inner nature of things. The Quran pairs it often with other names: “He is the Wise, the All-Aware” (6:18; 34:1), and it says of Him, “Does He who created not know? He is the Subtle, the All-Aware” (67:14). The name tells believers that nothing escapes God, neither deeds, nor intentions, nor what lies hidden in hearts. Scholars teach that it brings reassurance to those wronged and a warning to those who do wrong in secret. Faruqi glosses it as the All-Knowing, and it is close in sense to al-ʿAlīm, with the stress on awareness of inner detail.
Term and Arabic as listed in Ismail al Faruqi, Toward Islamic English (International Institute of Islamic Thought, 1995), p. 31, listed as AL KHABĪR. The definition is restated here.
