Person
A Saudi scholar (1910–1999) who was Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia from 1993.
What it means
Abd al-Aziz ibn Baz was born in Riyadh, memorised the Quran as a boy, and lost his sight in his teens. He taught and gave rulings for decades and became Grand Mufti. His fatwas are widely cited among Salafi Muslims, and other Muslims have criticised some of them, so they are an example of the range of views within the faith.
