إسحاق عليه السلام
Isḥāq
Prophet
Son of Abraham and Sarah and father of Jacob, named as a prophet in the Quran.
What it means
Angels gave Abraham and his wife the good news of Isaac, and of Jacob after him, when she was old (11:71–73; 37:112). “We gave him Isaac and Jacob, each of whom We guided” (6:84). Isaac is among those whom God made leaders who guide by His command (21:72–73).
What the sources say
The Quran does not name the son whom Abraham was told to sacrifice (37:99–113). Some early scholars said it was Isaac and many others, including most later commentators, said Ishmael. Muslims believe the Quran leaves it open on purpose, and the lesson of submission is the same.
