Prophet
Son of Isaac and father of Joseph, a prophet whose patience in grief the Quran praises.
What it means
His birth was foretold with that of Isaac (11:71). “We gave him Isaac and Jacob, each of whom We guided” (6:84). He urged his sons to die as Muslims (2:132–133), and when Joseph was lost he said: “Beautiful patience!” (12:18). His other name was Israel (3:93).
