The scriptures God revealed: the Torah, the Psalms, the Gospel and the Quran.

What it means

Belief in the scriptures is one of the six articles of faith, in the hadith of Gabriel (Sahih Muslim). The Quran names the Torah given to Moses (5:44), the Psalms (Zabūr) given to David (4:163), the Gospel given to Jesus, and the scrolls of Abraham and Moses (87:18–19). “We make no distinction between any of His messengers” (2:285).

Often misunderstood as

That Islam is a rival religion that sets out to cancel Judaism and Christianity.

What the sources say

The Quran presents itself as confirming what came before it and guarding it (5:48), and as the same message from the same God. Muslims do not hold that the earlier prophets taught something else. Their claim is that the message was one, was corrupted or misunderstood in places, and was finally given in a form kept intact.
