An early Christian view that Jesus became God’s Son by adoption.
What it means
Adoptionism, or dynamic monarchianism, held that Jesus was a man chosen and adopted by God because of his obedience. Church councils rejected it. The Quran differs from both this view and the Trinitarian one: it does not say God adopted Jesus, and it says that “it is not for God to take a son” (19:35).
