ذلة
Dhilla
Lowliness; the Quran uses it for the humiliation of wrongdoers and for the gentle humility believers should show each other and their parents.
What it means
The Quran says of the Israelites who turned away “humiliation and poverty were struck upon them” (2:61). It also describes the believers as “humble (adhilla) toward the believers, mighty against the disbelievers” (5:54), and tells children to “lower to your parents the wing of humility out of mercy” (17:24). Whether the word is blame or praise depends on the one it is applied to.
