The Quran tells believers to repel evil with good, to be just to enemies, and perhaps to turn enmity into friendship.

What it means

“Repel evil with what is better, and the one between whom and you is enmity will be as if he were a close friend” (41:34). “Do not let hatred of a people make you unjust; be just, that is closer to piety” (5:8). “Perhaps God will place affection between you and those whom you have held as enemies” (60:7). The Prophet, after he was stoned at Ta’if, was offered by the angel of the mountains to crush the town between two mountains. He refused, saying “perhaps God will bring from their descendants those who worship God alone” (Sahih al-Bukhari).
