استغفار
Istighfār
Asking God’s forgiveness, which the Quran urges and links with blessing and relief.
What it means
“Seek forgiveness from your Lord; He is ever Forgiving; He will send down rain upon you in abundance” (71:10–11). The Prophet is reported to have sought God’s forgiveness more than seventy times a day (Sahih al-Bukhari). “Astaghfir Allah” is said after the prayer.
