Fear of God in Islam is joined with hope and love, and the Prophet taught that God’s mercy outstrips His wrath.

What it means

The Quran says “fear Me, if you are believers” (3:175), and also “do not despair of the mercy of God” (39:53). The Prophet said that God wrote, before creating the world, “My mercy outstrips My wrath” (Sahih al-Bukhari). Scholars say a believer should be like a bird with two wings, fear and hope.
