al-Rāziq
Topic
A divine name: the One who grants rizq, the sustenance every creature needs.
What it means
Al-Rāziq is a divine name meaning the One who grants rizq, what God provides for His creatures. It is a name of the provider who gives food, health and the means of living. A stronger form, al-Razzāq, the constant Provider, is the one named in the Quran (51:58). The Quran teaches that no creature on earth lacks its provision from God (11:6). Muslims therefore thank Him for what they receive, work lawfully to earn it, and trust that they will be given what is written for them. The name is cited in supplications asking for lawful provision.
Term and Arabic as listed in Ismail al Faruqi, Toward Islamic English (International Institute of Islamic Thought, 1995), p. 33, listed as AL RĀZIQ. The definition is restated here.
