The Quran calls humans stewards (khalīfa) of the earth, forbids waste and corruption, and sets a balance (mīzān).

What it means

“Eat and drink, but do not be wasteful; He does not love the wasteful” (7:31, 6:141). “Do not cause corruption on the earth after it has been set right” (7:56). “He raised the heaven and set up the balance, so do not transgress the balance” (55:7–8). The Prophet said that if the Hour is about to come and one of you has a sapling in his hand, he should plant it (Ahmad), and that any Muslim who plants a tree or sows a crop from which a bird, person or animal eats has given charity (Sahih al-Bukhari).
