ʿAṣr
The third of the five daily prayers, between mid-afternoon and sunset.
What it means
The Quran tells believers to “maintain the prayers, especially the middle prayer” (2:238). The Prophet said that the middle prayer is ʿAṣr (Sahih Muslim). Chapter 103 is named after it and swears “by time” that humanity is in loss except those who believe, do good, and urge one another to truth and patience.
