The Quran says every soul will taste death (3:185), and that God created death as well as life as a test.
What it means
“Every soul will taste death” (3:185). “He who created death and life to test you, which of you is best in deed” (67:2). The Quran says that when the angel of death comes the soul is taken, and the righteous are met with peace (16:32). Burial in the earth is described as God’s mercy (80:21).
Often misunderstood as
That death is the result of Adam’s sin.
What the sources say
In the Quran death is not a curse from Adam’s fall. Before the fall God had already said He would place on earth a successor (2:30). Adam’s mistake was forgiven (2:37), and the Quran says all are to be brought back to God.
