The gift a husband gives his wife on marriage, which is hers alone.
What it means
“Give women their dowries as a gift” (4:4). The husband may not take it back, “even if you have given one of them a heap of gold” (4:20). It is the wife’s property, and not her father’s or her husband’s. The amount is whatever is agreed. The Prophet told a man who had nothing to give to teach his bride what he knew of the Quran (Sahih al-Bukhari).
