The Prophet’s hair was kept by some Companions as a keepsake; Muslims differ on the practice, and the Prophet wore his hair in the manner of his time.
What it means
Anas related that the barber shaved the Prophet’s head at the Farewell Pilgrimage and that the Companions took his hair, each a hair or two (Sahih Muslim). Umm Salama kept some of it in a vessel (Sahih al-Bukhari). The Prophet is reported to have first let his hair fall like the People of the Book, and later parted it (Sahih al-Bukhari).
What the sources say
Some scholars permit seeking blessing from the Prophet’s relics, and others, particularly Salafis, discourage it so as not to lead to veneration. The hair at the Hajj is shaved or cut as a sign of the end of the state of ihram.
