فرعون

Fir‘awn

Person

The king of Egypt who opposed Moses, a figure of tyranny and pride in the Quran.

What it means

“Pharaoh exalted himself in the land and divided its people into factions, oppressing a group of them” (28:4). He said, “I am your lord, the most high” (79:24). He was drowned in the sea, and his body is said to be kept as a sign for later generations (10:90–92).
