رسول

Rasūl

A messenger: a prophet sent with a message and, usually, a scripture to a people.

What it means

The Quran distinguishes nabī, a prophet, from rasūl, a messenger; every messenger is a prophet, but not every prophet is a messenger. Messengers named include Noah, Abraham, Moses, Jesus and Muhammad. The Quran says that God sent a messenger to every community (10:47) and that Muslims make no distinction between them (2:285). “Apostle” renders the Greek apostolos, “one sent”; the disciples of Jesus are called ḥawāriyyūn (3:52).
