مكة
Makka
Place
The holy city of Islam, birthplace of the Prophet and site of the Kaaba.
What it means
Mecca lies in a valley of the Hijaz in Saudi Arabia. The Quran calls it “this secure land” (95:3) and “Bakka” (3:96). Abraham prayed to make it a safe place (14:35). The Prophet was born there, received the first revelation nearby, and returned in 630 as a conqueror who forgave his opponents. Only Muslims may enter its sanctuary.
